NATURAL HABITAT:
This terrestrial skink species occupies the mixed forests
of
the Eastern U.S.A. In captivity Adults require a
24" x 18" x 12" vivarium.
BEHAVIOR:
Very active and difficult to hold.
CAPTIVE ENVIRONMENT:
Use full spectrum lighting 12-14 hours per day.
Provide
a basking area with access to a cooler area.
Supply several basking areas of logs, rocks.
Provide
hiding places (cork bark) for cover.
Substrate: Orchid bark is very good.
TEMPERATURE:
Daytime temperature should be:
basking area 85 degrees F.
cool area 80 degrees F.
Night temperatures should range between 70-75 degrees F.
Use
a reptile heat mat for 24-hour ground heat inside
the vivarium.
HUMIDITY:
This Skink requires low to medium levels of humidity.
WATER REQUIREMENTS:
Use a medium size water bowl for drinking.
Mist vivarium
every 4-5 days.
NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
diet consists of crickets, small locusts, mealworm and waxworm.
Offer a variety for proper nutrition. Also use a good vitamin
supplement.
